What's new in 4.0 rc.2
The public beta. A preparing window on first start, numbered repeated words and multi-word placing in Align, drag-select in Check, and Previous and Next beside the marking buttons. Updated October 20: poetry verses open whole, and alignments follow their words.
4.0.0-rc.2 is the public beta. These are the main changes since rc.1.
Starting tC4
- A preparing window on the first start. "Preparing translationCore4" counts the bundled resources, for example "Preparing resources: 2 of 16", and then tC4 opens on Home. Later starts are much faster. If the download is damaged, tC4 says so and quits without changing anything. See Install and start tC4.
Align
- Repeated words are numbered. A word that comes more than once in the verse shows which copy it is: de¹, de², de³. The source cards use the same numbers.
- Place several words at once. Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on a Mac) or Shift-click words in the word bank, then click or drag them onto one card.
- Cards keep verse order. Words on a card always show in the order they come in your verse, wherever you drop them.
See Link your words to the source.
Check
- Drag to select words. Drag across Your translation to select whole words. ✓ Mark valid saves the selection, and it is still there when you come back to the item. This works in Translation Notes and Translation Words. See Decide on a check item.
- Previous and Next beside the marks. Previous and Next are now on the same row as ✓ Mark valid, Invalid and To do, in Check and in Align.
Translate
- The Draft section button is always visible, as a small rounded button on each section. See Draft a section.
Also new since rc.1
- Translation Words checks use released Links. English ships
en_twlv91 besideen_twv91. Gateway downloads install their own_twlwhen published; otherwise English Links pair with that language's articles. Books not in the Links release have no tW check. Missing-article rows are hidden. See Check with Translation Words and What comes with the app.
- The internet is off until you turn it on. A step that needs the internet asks "Turn on the internet?" first. tC4 then uses the internet until you switch off Use the internet in the account menu, or close tC4. See Working offline.
- Add books from USFM files to a project you already have: Add a book › Add books from USFM files. Each file becomes a book. See Add a book.
- Sharing on Door43 uses the same question. It also says you'll review the destination and books before anything is uploaded. See Share to Door43.
- The Stories list keeps its titles and percentages while you draft a story. See Translate a story.
- Project settings says "1 book" instead of "1 books".
- Account menu: Help and guides (offline), About translationCore, App language (nine languages) and Report a problem. See The Home screen and Change the app language.
- Verse spans count in the drafted percentage, and joining verses across a paragraph no longer leaves a blank line inside the span. See Make or break a verse span.
- Resume names the verse or span you were on after a span change. See Resume where you left off.
- Place verse numbers supports click-then-click to move a number you already placed. See Place verse numbers.
- Understand / Translate / Check stay centered when Saved flips to Unsaved. See The three modes.
- You can save a section after deleting all of its text (placeholder verses). See Draft a section.
- Helps articles render quotes and bold cleanly; UST/GST verse numbers are superscript. See Read the notes and Simplified text.
rc.2 update — October 20, 2026
rc.2 was rebuilt on October 20 with these changes. The version number stays 4.0.0-rc.2.
Translate
- Poetry verses open whole. The Verse and Section editors show every line of a poetry verse, each indented one tab per level, with paragraph and chunk breaks as blank lines. Saving no longer leaves old text behind. See Paragraphs and poetry.
- All verses of poetry books show. Verses that start on a poetry line, for example most of Psalms and Genesis 49, now appear in Translate and Align.
- Verses with nested alignments show all their words, for example "the heavens" in Genesis 1:1.
Align
- The word bank always matches the verse text as it is now, and a card click places only the words shown as selected. See Link your words to the source.
- A link stays on its word when you edit the verse. Deleting a linked word removes its link. A change that leaves it unclear which copy of a repeated word you kept flags the verse for review. See Editing a verse you already checked or aligned.
- One rule decides which alignments need review, for the verse list, the notice, ✓ Mark valid, the translationCore 3 import and the aligned export.
- Source cards follow your project's original-language text, as in translationCore 3.
- Verses imported with alignments are kept as imported and show "This verse already holds an alignment". See Open the Align tool.
- Suggestions use the same words as the word bank, and work better for Hebrew.
Export
- USFM, aligned names any verse whose alignment needs review and is not in the file: "Your alignment of these verses is not in the file". See Export a book as USFM.
Team sync
- The sync result names each verse where a teammate's newer alignment replaced yours. See Working as a team.
- After a sync, a project that was open shows a plain message asking you to close and open it again, and Home always lets you leave.
Import
- A Scripture Burrito without a versification file imports without "Checkpoint not saved" errors.
